Benefits staff more likely to be allowed sick pay
Staff who work at the national insurance agency are more often granted sick pay than other people who are certificated as ill by a doctor, according to Swedish Radio.

Three percent of the people who are deemed ill by a doctor, get their claims for sick pay rejected by the insurance agency. But among the agency’s own staff, only three per mil - that is ten times as few - get their sick pay claims rejected.

This is according to official statistics, requested under the freedom of information act by a private person, locksmith Olle Walday in Västerås.

"This is just so wrong. It isn’t how it is supposed to be," says Walday, who filed a request for information regarding all staff at the national insurance agency between April 2017 and May 2018.

Cecilia Udin, national insurance coordinator at Försäkringskassan, says one cannot draw any wider conclusions from the statistics, adding the agency always makes decisions "on a case by case basis, and the rules are the same for everybody."
