Employment law review stirs controversy

Employment law review stirs controversy
A highly anticipated review of the Employment Protection Act was presented to the government ‪on Monday afternoon

‬.

It includes proposals for new rules around hiring and firing, but Employment Minister Eva Nordmark told Swedish Radio she is not satisfied with the suggested reforms.

The very idea of a review aimed at modernising Swedish employment laws caused controversy from the outset.

The trade unions opposed it and Sweden’s employers’ organisations have said they prefer to negotiate employment terms on their own.

The decision to review the Employment Protection Act was taken as part of the January Agreement last year, a deal which enabled the minority Social Democrat and Green coalition government to stay in power.

Improvement in Sweden’s corona pandemic bankruptcy predictions

The number of Swedish companies who expect to go into bankruptcy as a result of the coronavirus pandemic is decreasing, according to a new survey carried out by the National Institute of Economic Research, NIER.

The second special survey that the institute has carried out to measure the impact of the pandemic on businesses, it shows that the number of companies who experienced a loss in revenue has decreased by five percent over the last two weeks.

But the outlook is still significantly worse than it would be under normal circumstances.
