Migration policy talks between Social Democrats and Moderates break down
Cross party negotiations over the future of Sweden's migration policy had some major setbacks on Monday after the dialogue between the Riksdag's two largest parties ground to a halt.

The Riksdag’s migration committee has been working this summer to try and reach a deal in the area, but ‪on Monday afternoon‬ Moderate migration policy Maria Malmer Stenergard told news agency TT that their negotiations with the governing Social Democrats had ground to a halt.

She blamed the influence of the Greens, the smaller party in the coalition government, but Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said the Moderates had been unwilling to compromise.

Christian Democrats: Sweden’s immigration policy should match its neighbours

Christian Democrat economic policy spokesperson Jakob Forssmed has defended the party’s push to reduce immigration in the final instalment of Swedish Radio’s week of party leader interviews on Sunday, and expressed hope that its former allies in the Riksdag may reconsider their position in the next general election.

Forssmed was representing the Christian Democrats in place of leader Ebba Busch, and also expressed hope that former allies the Center Party and Liberals could return to working with KD and the Moderates following the 2022 Riksdag elections.
