A third infection of the zika virus has now been detected in France. The three cases are the first in which people have been infected by the zika virus through European mosquitoes, the EU’s Anti-Infection Protection Agency (ECDC) writes on its website.

Three people from the city of Hyères in southern France have been confirmed to be sick with the virus and none of them have been living in areas where the risk of the disease is high. In other words, they have probably been infected by mosquitoes in France.

The people became infected during the same time period, in August this year, and they have all recovered.

No mosquito-transmitted infection has been found in Europe before, but mosquitoes that can transmit the disease can be found in Southern Europe.

However, the risk of being infected by the zika virus in Europe remains very small, according to ECDC.

The zika virus can cause severe neurological damage in the fetus, especially the microcephaly disease that causes a baby to be born with too little head.
